Media and Communications Specialist job description

Big Blue is looking to recruit a mid-level Media and Communications Specialist (5-9 years experience) who can help us develop media relationships, organise events, and deliver high-quality high-visibility communications products for our client projects in Dhaka and for our own business development worldwide.

You will work with us in two areas. First, you will help us deliver top-quality communications products for our client projects worldwide, with a specific focus on projects in Bangladesh. Second, you will help us build Big Blue’s growing profile in the international development sector.

You will work fast to the highest standards of delivery, and you will take a customer service approach to our relationships with our clients.

Due to the nature of our client projects, candidates with backgrounds in the following sectors are highly encouraged to apply: digital/mobile financial services and financial inclusion, gender and/or women’s empowerment, and youth advocacy.

Responsibilities

Client projects

  • Create relationships with print, broadcast, and online media outlets to ensure that our client teams’ materials find the right audiences
  • Draft press materials and place in relevant newspapers
  • Coordinate our client teams’ participation on radio and TV programmes
  • Turn complex research and data into clear, compelling stories. Strong English writing skills are essential
  • Write and publish a range of communications materials such as slide presentations, event materials, reports, briefs, factsheets, and e-newsletters in clear and jargon-free language
  • Create content for client websites and social media channels
  • Create relationships with suppliers/vendors who can help us deliver memorable events
  • Cover client field visits in writing and photography
  • Monitor, assess, and report on website and social media analytics

  • Grow a database of relationships with vendors, suppliers, freelance consultants, and creative professionals. Measured, sensitive relationship-building is a key requirement of this position

  • Manage our team’s collection of digital assets, including photos, illustrations, and film clips

Skills and qualifications

  • Absolute commitment to on-time delivery. You must be accustomed to meeting continual deadlines, and you will be asked to demonstrate previous experience in managing content production calendars
  • Respectful, customer service approach to clients’ projects
  • 5+ years of experience in the field of media coordination, communications, or journalism
  • Understanding of audiovisual aspects of event production
  • Desire to work within international development
  • Commitment to developing deep understanding of client projects’ sectors. These particularly include financial inclusion and women’s empowerment
  • Degree in communications, public relations or journalism
  • Experience using Squarespace/Wordpress
  • Ability to use InDesign to a mid-level standard and willingness to undertake to undertake layouts of short publications and design materials
  • Photography skills highly desirable

Terms

  • Monday-Friday working week. 8.5 hours a day, with 1 hour for lunch
  • 3-month probation period, followed by 6-9-month fixed term contract
  • If contacted by Big Blue for interviews, candidates will be asked to submit a 500-word writing sample, CV, and portfolio
  • Salary is commensurate with experience
  • Candidates must have right to work in Bangladesh
